Filmmaker is a Colombian artist specialising in EBM (Electronic Body Movement) music. His album art generally consists of dark, abstract imagery in a style reminiscent of linocut. As this was a typography-centered project, I decided to push myself by choosing him as my subject and trying to bring his visual identity into typographic form. As one of my first grunge-oriented projects, I'm proud to say that it's one of my favourite designs. Utilising optical film on the inside of the die-cut really brings the design together.
Ravager is a fictitious metalcore band I came up with in late 2019. I was experimenting with album covers at this point and found that coming up with band names would help guide me towards the final design. I didn't spend a whole lot of time on this project and quickly forgot about it. When I came back to it later this year, I had a clear vision of improving it, and that's exactly what I did. Taking inspiration from modern metalcore labels such as Sharptone and Solid State Records, I gave the concept a completely new feel, complete with an original logo for the band and a back cover.
I know what you're thinking; just looking at this box is enough to make a grown man feel tipsy. That's exactly the intention. A drink to make you drunk before you drink it. Fool Proof Ale is a blackcurrant ale designed with a dark, psychedelic look, just like the drink itself. Made to jump out at you on the shelves. The small hints of colour here and there make you question your sobriety, whilst the illusive pattern plays tricks of its own. The skull and jester combination on the logo help carry the concept that whilst drinking is all fun and games, you probably shouldn't drink too much of this highly alcoholic deliciousness.
This was originally going to be a biohazard warning video, utilising the gas mask and smoke bombs, however I decided to take it in a more punk direction during the recording session. Something pointless, but fun to watch. I wanted to play around with some techniques I hadn't really used before, such as film and hand-drawn assets. This project also allowed me to practise photography and music creation, two other creative outlets I'm interested in.
